Controviaggi was a project by Associazione per la Pace, born in 2002 with the first "Caravan for Peace in the Balkan". It is an alternative tourism activity and followed the principles of the founders that strongly believed in this experience with historical and political profile.
Choosing former-Yugoslavia was not by chance: that conflict, lasting more than 10 years, has modified not only social and political dynamics in the region but also the image that the rest of the world had about it.
The Balkans is a complex and plural reality and it was necessary to re-built the image of a multi-ethnic and tolerant region, after that nationalism and ethnic hate had begun the new symbol for it, even because without the Balkan, it isn’t possible to speak about Europe.
Aim of these travels was not only to visit wonderful places (from the tourist, cultural and naturalistic point of view) but also to support the reconstruction of an active civil society, justice and democracy, based on the relations that we have had during the years, and to share with people their lives, stories, and realities.
Tourist travels, but social and political travel as well. Realised in places with deep memories, because only by knowing the past it is possible to build a fair future.
